This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
