The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
