Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
