A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old presenter was approached by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before running away.

The motive of the attack is unknown and no one has been arrested have been made, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Police indicated that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a building near the Carlton Centre.

He had devoted time at the site overseeing the setup of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, according to reports.

"The report indicates the man was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report said.

CCTV footage reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what appeared to be a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the scene.

Appeal for Witnesses

Officials are asking members of the public who may have seen the suspects to come forward.

"We know they traveled on foot after the shooting, and police have been attempting to locate them to find their destination," stated a police chief.

Family and Public Reaction

His sister, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to come to terms with the loss.

"I am devastated. I don't have words," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were willing to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."

In a release, the channel he worked for said Stock was known for his magnetism, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will endure".
