A pair of crude explosives went off in the Ukrainian capital on Thursday, resulting in the loss of a national guard serviceman and injuries to four other individuals, among them two law enforcement officials. Prosecutors described the incident as a "terrorist" attack. According to an official statement, the initial explosion occurred during a routine check by two servicemen. The second device was set off as police and emergency responders arrived at the scene of the first blast.

Kyiv's Aerial Attacks Hit Russian Industrial Facilities

In a parallel development, aerial units targeted two plants situated in Russia's western regions. The head of drone forces announced that these plants were manufacturing materials for explosives used by Russian forces in the war against Ukraine. Battlefield Disputes: Authority Over Siversk in Question

At the same time, the military leadership on Thursday denied assertions from Moscow to have taken control of the town of Siversk. The army affirmed that the region "is still within the control of the armed forces of Ukraine." They noted that Russian forces were attempting to enter in small groups, using poor weather conditions, but were being eliminated on the approaches. Analysts reported recent gains near Pokrovsk and Russian progress in other tactical areas.

International Reactions and Economic Actions

On the diplomatic front, the alliance's leader cautioned allies that "we are Russia's next target," outlining a scenario of a potential conflict within the next five years. In a related move, a proposal to keep immobilized an approximate €210bn of state funds within the EU is scheduled for ratified. This measure facilitates a financial package to Ukraine, funded by the frozen Russian assets.

Political Comments on Conflict and Diplomacy

DPRK leader Kim Jong-un reportedly hailed his country's troops engaged in Ukraine, claiming they had shown the "prestige" of the North Korean army. South Korean estimates suggest significant casualties among these personnel.

In another development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about a reported US proposal for a unilateral Ukrainian pullback from currently held parts of the Donbas to create a "free economic zone." He raised questions about the idea, questioning what would prevent Russian forces from advancing or disguising themselves in such a zone. Zelenskyy stated that any such major agreement would require approval by the "citizens of Ukraine" through a vote.

"Why doesn't the other side pull back the equivalent amount in the other direction?" Zelenskyy reportedly asking, highlighting unresolved issues over regions and the key facility.

Zelenskyy continued that talks on these vital points are ongoing. In a related statement, a political figure said that the United States would participate in scheduled European talks on Ukraine this week if there was a real prospect of progress toward a truce.
