One of the original creators of the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has claimed that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch of an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who established the company with his partner, disclosed how he plans to personally create this new flavor within a personal collection highlighting causes the company has been barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Conflict Involving Founders and Parent Company

The recent development escalates the continuing conflict between the world-famous ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the British consumer goods giant that has owned the ice cream brand since 2000.

Both founders maintain how Unilever and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Flavor as an Emblem for Support

The entrepreneur announced via social media that he is creating an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, requesting consumer ideas regarding naming options and additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen commented in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians while demanding addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has become an emblem of solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its coloration, which closely resemble the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism plus Current Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

This upcoming product line is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which originally created several years back to support former political contender Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts and Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen stated how he plans to create additional ice cream flavors focusing on concerns that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement comes after partner Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at the company recently, after decades of involvement, citing worries that its independence had been undermined after Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen stated how "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to keep working inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that it can actualise the social mission, the values which it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to journalists.
